From The Oklahoman:
Between her work, and caring for those in need in her own home, DWe Williams doesn’t have much time to sit back and take stock of how far she’s come in this world, and that’s just fine. She’s always been one to keep moving in whatever direction inspiration takes her.
Growing up in Durham, North Carolina, Williams caught the public speaking bug early, reading Easter poems at her church and orations on a local TV program.
She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in speech and theater at North Carolina A&T and, later, a masters in children’s theater from Southern Illinois University. …
In the early 1980s, Williams was a recently minted graduate student sitting around in Harvey, Illinois, wondering what direction life would take her next when she found out about an artist-in-residence opportunity in Oklahoma City. She thought she’d stay for a year. One year turned into 36.
