New medical school associate dean to expand programs to promote diversity, inclusion

The SIU School of Medicine has hired a new associate dean for equity, diversity and inclusion. Dr. Wendi Wills El-Amin, who began on Aug.1, says she plans to launch and expand programs to increase high school student interest in medicine and help future doctors avoid unconscious bias when working with patients.

Wills El-Amin succeeded Dr. Wesley Robinson McNeese, who helped launch SIU’s office of diversity, multicultural and minority affairs in 2001.

“This job will give me the opportunity to be a collaborator, a change agent,” Wills El-Amin said. Learn more from the State Journal-Register article.
