CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) – Hundreds of protesters let Southern Illinois University leadership know how they felt about issues on campus, but not every protester gathered on campus.

Graduate student Evan Brown said issues happening on SIU’s campus is something he felt Illinois lawmakers couldn’t handle, so he took his efforts to the top.

“I attend Southern Illinois University if you don’t know,” Evans said in a video posted on Facebook. “We coming to pretty much ask the president for some help.”

Brown, along with a friend, decided to travel more than 800 miles to protest outside of the White House.

“It was 12 hours,” he said. “It was raining, but we were kinda determined to do what we had to do to make a statement.”

An SIU student took the protest all the way to the White House.
